PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Bob Emery
Principal
Dear Families and Friends of the Trinity Catholic College Community
In the complex tapestry of modern life, we find ourselves wired to worry. Worry and anxiety have become unwelcome companions for many, permeating various aspects of our daily existence – from career pressures to social media stress, family responsibilities to global turmoil and uncertainties. Many suffer from serious anxiety disorders requiring medical intervention.
The word “worry” is mentioned many times in the New Testament. Jesus warned His disciples against worry. The most well-known of these warnings is probably Mat 6:24-34, in which Jesus tells his disciples in part:
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. ……. Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
……. So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (from the New International Version Bible)
The word the Gospel writer uses for "worry" is the Greek verb "merimnao," which means to have concern for something. Jesus was speaking to his disciples specifically about money and possessions, things most people would have had concerns about in first century Judea. For us, today, we need to extend the range of concerns Jesus is speaking about. We can have concerns about a huge range of responsibilities, issues and possibilities, many of which can be quite disturbing.
Often, our tendency to be concerned can get out of hand, choosing to focus on potential problems or dwelling on disasters that might happen. When we obsess over things that are beyond our control, like the state of the world, the future for our children and grandchildren, interest rates, what's going to happen tomorrow and so on, we compound worry on top of worry. And all that worry will not help us live longer, and it won't bring peace or security. It steals the joy out of the life that we do have right now.
Jesus wants to free us from that gnawing ache of worry by redirecting our attention to God's trustworthy character. We are invited to seek God’s love and compassion. There are many ways to reduce worry and anxiety – meditation, mindfulness, yoga, exercise, healthy diet and so on – but I have found in my own life that prayer is the most powerful way to dissipate worry. It is a mystery as to how prayer helps but it certainly helps. That sense of connection and closeness with our loving God can sustain us through even the most difficult of times. Faithful prayer won’t make things easy, but it will make things possible.
Have a lovely school holiday period, everyone.
Best wishes,
Robert Emery

SAFEGUARDING
What you need to know about young people, alcohol & other drug use - how to keep our young people safe:
ENGLISH

Renai Thirlway
English / Drama Teacher
Drama Unit
Our Year 8 students have been celebrating their collaborative and creative talents during a recent four-week drama unit in English. They have enjoyed learning about the elements of drama - from writing a script through to producing and performing a shadow production.
The physical/practical side of this subject was also experienced through improvisation and Theatre Sports sessions led by our exceptional senior drama students. This has been a fantastic experience for creative, deeper learning with a practical outcome.
Drama is very much a growth subject here at Trinity College and we now have over 60 students across all year groups involved in our creative projects, including scriptwriting, professional theatre experiences, film festivals and backstage, sound/lighting opportunities.
Drama is also an elective option for stage 5 in 2026. This course offers students the opportunity to collaborate, communicate, create and celebrate!

LEGAL STUDIES

Bonnie Tranchini
HSIE Teacher /
Gifted Education Mentor
Year 11 Legal Studies
Alumni Daniel Roff spent time with Year 11 Legal Studies on Tuesday 17 June, offering expert insights into a range of legal issues and cases that we have been looking at throughout the course.
Some of the topics that were discussed included the balance between legal rights and responsibilities and the impact that this has on the resolution of legal issues, lowering of the voting age, the role of courts and the government in introducing and enforcing laws that reflect the values of society, as well as current cases surrounding youth crime, terrorism and international politics.
We are greatly appreciative of the time Daniel dedicated to meeting with our Legal Eagles- it was extremely valuable to hear about how our studies in the classroom relate directly to many of the current issues facing our wider society.

MOCK TRIAL

Bonnie Tranchini
HSIE Teacher /
Gifted Education Mentor
On Thursday 24 June, Trinity Catholic College faced off with St Paul’s Booragul for Round 3 of the NSW Law Society Mock Trial competition.
Appearing for the prosecution in a criminal case of larceny, barristers Demetria Hall and Aden White were advised by Abbie Hartnett as instructing solicitor. Witnesses Ivy Jones and Austin Harris underwent intense examination by both sides, while Ishita Relan kept everything moving along as Magistrates Clerk.
It was a nailbiter of a trial, which came down to a narrow defeat. We would like to thank the St Paul’s team for bringing their A-game and putting us through our paces.
If any current Year 9 students would like to express their interest in participating in this challenging competition in 2026, please see Mrs Tranchini.
DRAMA

Renai Thirlway
English/ Drama Teacher
Trinity Catholic College was privileged to host the Diocesan HSC Drama study day on Thursday, 26 June.
Students and drama teachers from across the Diocese celebrated this valuable subject through participation in a series of practical and informative workshops on all aspects of this course. This was an opportunity for students to share their progress with individual projects and group performances and receive quality feedback from highly experienced senior drama teachers and their peers. Our Year 9 and 10 students also attended the workshop to gain valuable insight into this Stage 6 elective. A fantastic day of collaboration, sharing and fun!

Video resume workshop
A group of Year 10 and 11 students recently participated in a Video Resume Workshop designed to help them stand out with a professional video resume for their next job or university application. This program focused on developing essential skills to meet the evolving digital demands of today’s employers during recruitment.
During the workshop, students wrote, recorded and edited a compelling 'piece to camera' that showcased their talents and employability skills. These videos can now be tailored to any job, industry or role. Students also created a professional title page with a headshot that was integrated into the final polished video package. The resulting one-to-two-minute videos are impressive and ready to be used for job or university applications.

Coming Soon: Social Media and Content Creation
Next term, we will be offering a new workshop run by the same company, focused on Social Media and Content Creation. This course will teach students how to leverage social media as a powerful business tool and explore the diverse career opportunities within this dynamic industry.
Students will gain hands-on experience creating their own digital media advertisements, incorporating elements of film, photography, advertising, and digital marketing. This workshop complements subjects such as Business Studies, Retail Services, and Industrial Technology Multimedia.
The workshop will be available to all Year 10 and 11 students who opt in via Compass. For more information or any questions, please contact Careers Advisor, Belinda Wallace.
